Hi folks,
So do
you know what Gary Larson’s favorite children’s book is? We know! The book is Mr. Bear Squash-You-All-Flat. (In case
you did not know, Gary Larson is a cartoonist from Tacoma, Washington who
created the hilarious “The Far Side” comics.) It is a great book for 3-6 year
olds. We currently have hard-back editions in stock.
Mr. Squash-You-All Flat is story of Mr. Bear, the Neighborhood
Nuisance who roams the forest squashing the houses of other animals - and
finally gets his own hilarious, smashing comeuppance. The illustrations are
heart felt and totally hilarious too! Don’t believe us? Just look below! Wednesday, December 12, 2012
Hi folks!
So guess
who won “Best Book Store in Wallingford” in Seattle Magazine’s Best of 2012? We
did! Check us out in the December issue of Seattle Magazine, which lists the
best of all your favorite neighborhoods, including Wallingford!
Christmas is approaching-do you
need a picture book recommendation for a 4-8 year old? How about The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris
Lessmore by William Joyce? Which
is one of our staff picks and is the story that inspired the Academy-Award
winning short film of 2010. It is a very touching story and Joyce’s most
personal story of his career to date. (Here is the link to the movie if you
would like to see the film. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vftMo1-cfWE)
“Morris
Lessmore loved words. He loved stories. He loved books. But every story has its
upsets. Everything in Morris Lessmore’s life, including his own story, is
scattered to the winds. But the power of story will save the day".

Hello!
A new day calls for a new book
right? Looking for a local author suggestion? Sherman Alexie is a fantastic
local author. His young adult book is The
Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian and is inspired by his own
experiences growing up. He chronicles the contemporary adolescence of one
unlucky boy trying to rise above the life everyone expects him to live.
Junior is a budding cartoonist
growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Born with a variety of medical
problems, he is picked on everyone but his best friend. Determined to receive a
good education, Junior leaves the rez to attend an all-white school in the
neighboring farm town where the only other Indian is the school mascot. Despite
being condemned as a traitor to his people and enduring great tragedies, Junior
attacks life with wit and humor and discovers a strength inside of himself that
he never knew existed.

Hi Folks,
Today we got a shipment of The
Wizard of Oz books and we love The
Wonderful Wizard of Oz 100th Anniversary Edition. It is one of
the true classics of American Literature. The
Wonderful Wizard of Oz has stirred the imaginations of young and old alike
for over four generations. Originally published in 1900, it was the first truly
American Fairy Tale, as L. Frank Baum crafted a wonderland out of such familiar
items as a cornfield scarecrow, a mechanical woodman, and a humbug wizard who
used an old-fashioned hokum to express that universal theme, “There’s no place
like home.”
Follow the adventures of young
Dorothy Gale and her dog, Toto, as their Kansas house is swept away by a
cyclone and they find themselves in a strange land called Oz. Here she meets
the Munchkins and joins the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion on an
unforgettable journey to the Emerald City, where lives the all-powerful Wizard
of Oz.
The lavishly produced first edition contains all
24 of W.W. Denslow’s original color plates, the colorful pictorial binding, and
the 130 two-color illustrations that help make The Wonderful Wizard of Oz so special and enduring. Thursday, December 6, 2012
Hi there!
Do you need any book recommendations
for some young adult readers? How about The
Hobbit? The Hobbit is a great
modern classic and is the enchanting prelude to The Lord of the Rings but was originally written as book for J.R.R.
Tolkien’s children.
Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who
enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely traveling any further than his
pantry or his cellar. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard Gandalf
and a company of dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an
adventure. They have launched a plot to raid the treasure hoard guarded by
Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon. Bilbo is reluctant to
take part in this quest, but he surprised himself by his resourcefulness and
his skill as a burglar.
We are so excited about the movie adaptation, which will be released on December 14th in case you didn't know. We have hardback, 75th Anniversary editions which would make for an awesome gift, and paperback editions in stock.
